Expedition vessel Anastasia

Expedition vessel Anastasia provides a floating laboratory for testing autonomous and remotely operated underwater vehicles, unmanned surface vessels, hydroacoustic equipment and navigation systems.

Lake Ladoga offers depths of up to 200 metres, varied seabed terrain, steep depth changes and an irregular coastline, with natural and artificial targets for equipment trials. The survey area provides mobile connectivity, EGNOS corrections and Geospider reference station coverage.

Vessel capabilities

Anastasia is based in Priozersk, Leningrad Region. Its equipment includes mounts for multibeam and single-beam echo sounders and acoustic positioning systems, stern towing arrangements for side-scan sonar and magnetometers, a crane with a 500-2,000 kg lifting capacity, and deck space for support boats and prototype vehicles.

Survey infrastructure

During the 2025 navigation season, the vessel carried out round-the-clock hydrographic work on Lake Onega for Marine Geodesy for three months. Near its home port, Marine Geodesy established bathymetric calibration areas and identified underwater test targets.

Working on board

The vessel accommodates 10 expedition personnel. A large wheelhouse and mess room provide space for deck units, server equipment and a field office.
